Xentials and Cool Stuff

Xentials = Essentials
The things you need for a flower garden that’s healthy; producing beautiful blooms that will make your neighbors envious! This page will be duplicated on all my Spring Flower websites, because it reflects the garden products I use and believe in using.

The first slide show:
A gardener really really needs to know the soil conditions they’re working with. The easiest way to find out everything about your flowerbed soil is to use a soil test meter. The Luster Leaf 1840 Rapitest Soil pH Meter includes instructions with optimal pH values for more than 400 plants.

An Xsential for growing healthy blooming flowers is good dirt! I use a lot of Miracle Grow products, but if you need to liven up and improve your flower garden soil, (and need more than 1 bag) Schultz Garden Soil for Flowers and Vegetables is an excellent product with a better price.

Oak Wood Ash will reduce the acidity Ph level in your soil. It also protects flowers and plants against slugs, fertilizes your flowerbed, and protects plants over the Winter.

Soil Sulphur increases the acidity Ph level in your soil.

A Soaker hose has a drip/sweating action that conserves water and distributes it evenly, allowing your flowers’ roots to receive the moisture, not it’s leaves and foilage. I am definately getting some of these for this year. Gonna save me time too, not having to spend 45 minutes each time (I walk around with a hose).

The Miracle-Gro Lawn and Garden Feeder is a sprayer with 4 settings that holds 1 pound of food for your flowers. When attached to your garden hose, it will mix 50 gallons of nourishment. For the flower gardener that has large or many flowerbeds.

A 5 pound package of Miracle-Gro All Purpose Plant Food can be mixed in your Lawn and Garden Feeder. This really is excellent plant food. I even have smaller packages of it for my indoor plants, mixing 1 scoop per 1 gallon of water each time I water. This plant food can be used for all vegetables, your lawn, all flowers, fruits and trees too!

Miracle-Gro Rose Food has a 18-24-16 formula that is excellent for roses. Can be mixed in your Lawn and Garden Feeder. For the flower gardener with lots of rose bushes.

The Miracle-Gro LiquaFeed Advance Starter Kit includes a sprayer with 3 patterns to hook to your hose, and 2 bottles of mixed (12-4-8 formula) plant food that attach to the sprayer. Safe to use on all flowers, trees, lawns, shrubs, and vegetables. Each bottle will cover 500 sq.feet in 15 minutes. For gardeners that don’t want to measure 1 pound of All Purpose Plant Food and put it in the regular Lawn and Garden Feeder.

Miracle-Gro Shake ‘n Feed Continuous Release All Purpose Plant Food is a 10-10-10 formula for the gardener with a small amount of flowerbeds. Shake 1T per 1sq.foot of feeder around your flowers, and work it into the soil at a depth of 1-3 inches, then water your plants for nutrition that lasts for 3 months.

Miracle-Gro Shake’n Feed Bloom Booster Plant Food has a 10-16-10 formula that will help produce more and larger blooms on your flowers. Food will cover 135 sq.feet. For the gardener with a small amount of flowerbeds.

Specifically for your flower garden roses (not roses in containers) is the Miracle-Gro Shake’n Feed Rose Plant Food. Has a 9-18-9 formula, great for all types of roses. Shake 1T per 1sq.foot of feeder around your roses, and work it into the soil at a depth of 1-3 inches, then water your plants for nutrition that lasts for 3 months. Again, this is (in my opinion) for flowergardeners that have a small amount of roses.

Jerry Baker is known as America’s Master Gardener, with an extensive line of authored books. My step-father has used Jerry’s home-made tonics for years in his vegetable garden, and I can attest to the fact that they work to create beautiful, large, and tasty fruits and vegetables! I love reading his books and using the simple tonics to have huge and healthy flowers, so I’d like to recommend Jerry’s books for you in this slide show.

Perfect Perennials is Jerry Baker’s guide with more than 1,700 secrets for creating perennial flowerbeds that will flourish year after year using more than 50 homemade tonics.

Flower Garden Problem Solver is a guide of caring for 85 varieties of flowers and their blossoms.

Backyard Birdscaping Bonanza will help you create a garden and landscape that birds will love. Extensive guide on treat recipes, shelters, flowers, trees, vines, plants, and tips for birds.

Flower Power is a no-nonsense guide for growing annuals, perennials, bulb plants, roses, flowering shrubs, and trees. 368 pages of tips, tricks, and tonics for blooming all year long.

Cool Stuff = products that make your flowergardening enjoyable and fun!

Ahhh, Hummingbirds! I adore watching their antics in my back yard flower garden! This slide show presents only red colored hummingbird feeders. Why? I’ve had much better success bringing hummingbirds to my yard with red than with any other color. My Hummers have been up close and personal with me many times, whizzing all of a sudden to a stop within 6 inches of my face, hovering in mid-air to examine me! It’s also fun to watch them chase each other around the feeders.

You can certainly make a personal statement with garden stakes, or add a little whimsy that hides under some bushes, or create a meditative mood with a gazing ball. I personally have 2 of the red cardinals in this slide show. They’re great to put near flowers that you don’t want the dogs & kids to trample, or the birds to bother, because of their moving wings.
